Spring has officially sprung, and it finally feels like we’re sliding our way to warmer weather. And a change of weather can only mean one thing: a valid reason to update your wardrobe!

You don’t need to wear that same-old winter coat anymore. Your chunky boots can go back in your closet. And say goodbye to that tired thick knitwear too. It’s time to go shopping!

Here is our ultimate wardrobe guide for spring 2018. Add these six pieces to your wardrobe today and you’ll be looking sharp all summer long. We’ve done all the hard work so that you don’t have to:

A Floral Shirt

This season sees a resurgence of tropical printed shirts, including vibrant and over the top florals. Most fashionable men have long avoided these types of shirts because they are gaudy, they generally don’t fit well off the peg, and they are the mainstay of overweight tourists who don’t understand fashion.

This summer all of that will change, and fashion-forward men everywhere will be wearing tropical-style floral shirts thanks to the incredible models shown at Louis Vuitton and Gucci’s runway collections for SS18. These are the kinds of shirts that show us that bright and bold aren’t necessarily a bad thing.

The key to pulling off a vibrant floral shirt is fit. Your shirt should be fitted rather than baggy. Tuck it into your shirt for a preppy and

We prefer floral shirts with a hard, rather than a soft collar. Despite the lack of formality of the overall look, don’t shy away from using collar stays if you want to add more rigidity to your shirt. This will give your whole outfit a feel of increased formality, and ensure you look sleek, chic and fashion-forward.

Your shirt might not be subtle, but the rest of your outfit certainly should be. Pair with a light linen blazer in navy blue for a more formal look, or your favourite leather jacket for something a little more casual.

Keep your colour palette pared-pack, focusing on dark tailoring and subtle pastel accent colours. There’s no better way to introduce something fun and totally tropical to your spring/summer wardrobe than with a floral shirt.

Here are some of our favourite floral shirts perfect for wearing all spring/summer long:

A Fedora

Just 100 years ago, no stylish man would have dreamt of leaving the house without a hat. Despite the popularity of the hat waning since then, wearing a hat during the summer months still reflects style, class, and a commitment to looking chic whilst staying cool. With so many different hat types, you may not be sure exactly what a fedora is. A fedora is a soft hat with an indented crown that has a wide soft brim. Traditionally fedoras are made of felt, but the modern summer fedora is constructed of a light, open weave straw.

Typically, fedoras come with a ribbon band, which sits above the rim. The colour and pattern of your ribbon or embellishment will help to make your hat stand out from the crowd.

Wearing a fedora is a great way to show that spring is here! A hat will protect your head from the sun, and inject a light vacation feel to any outfit. We love fedoras worn with linen shorts and light cotton shirts in shades of crisp white or blue for a look that screams laid-back summer style.

If you prefer an urban or rock and roll aesthetic then that doesn’t mean that you can’t wear a fedora. Look to stars such as Pharrell Williams for inspiration, and pair your hat with a denim shirt or logo sweater, bomber jacket or leather jacket, and your favourite skinny jeans. The overall look will be one that is stylish, fashion-forward and guaranteed to turn heads.

Here are our top tips for picking the perfect summer hat for you:

  • Ensure your hat fits correctly. Your fedora should fit your head snugly and not fall off with excessive movement. To secure the perfect fit, measure around the fullest part of your crown using a tape measure, and select a hat that is half an inch wider than the measurement you take.
  • Experiment with colour. If you’re looking for something bold and exciting then why not experiment with a vibrant blue, red, or green fedora? Although neutral hats are the most popular, that doesn’t mean they are the only option available.
  • Be confident! Finally, the key to wearing a hat with style is to wear it with complete confidence. This is a piece sure to attract attention, and you have to embrace that. Strut your stuff, believe that you look good, and this positive attitude will ensure that you do look good.

And here are some of our favourite fedoras on the market right now, perfect for showing off your ultimate style credentials this spring:

A Leather Satchel

If last season could be defined by any bag then that bag would be the nylon backpack. Sports luxe pieces were all the rage, and the line between clothes to wear at the gym and to the club became incredibly blurred.

This season though, we are saying goodbye to the sporty accessories and seeing a return to luxe materials and classic shapes: this season the most fashion-forward bags for men are constructed from soft and supple leather. And we just love the leather satchel!

There are so many reasons why the satchel is the perfect bag: formal enough for the office, large enough to carry a laptop, and versatile enough that it can go with anything. What we love most about the satchel though is that

Not sure about wearing a ‘man bag?’ Some men still have concerns that carrying a bag isn’t very masculine, but it may interest you to know that more than 50% of American men now own a bag to tote their important paperwork, electronic devices and other day-to-day essentials around.

The key is to wear your bag across your body and ensure that the strap is long enough that it can rest on your hip, rather than on your natural waist, which can make your body look both bulky and feminine. If you’re pairing your satchel with a suit then simply hold it by your side like a briefcase, to give it a more formal feel.

Top tip: The best quality leather looks better as it becomes battered and aged, so invest in the highest quality leather satchel you can afford and enjoy the way its look changes and improves over the years. This is the perfect piece to buy now and keep forever.

Linen Pants

There’s nothing new about men wearing linen pants in the spring/summer, and it would be wrong to call this fashion innovation. But if you’re looking for something lightweight, comfortable, and easy to wear this spring then there is no better piece to choose.

The beauty of the linen pants is that they are breezy but still business appropriate when they need to be. These versatile trousers can be worn almost anywhere, and for almost any occasion.

Wear in lieu of shorts when you head to the shore. Pack when you go on a summer vacation to wear in the restaurants and bars, as a cooler and more weather-appropriate alternative to jeans. Pair with your favourite shirt and blazer for a sweaty afternoon in the office without air conditioning. The possibilities are endless and linen doesn’t have to be just for resort wear.

Linen isn’t an easy fabric to pull off, and when picking linen pants it’s important to ensure that you choose a high-quality fabric. Take the fabric in your hands and scrunch it: if it remains creased then put it back on the shelf, as it will only look creased and scruffy every time you wear it.

But beware: If, when you scrunch it, the fabric falls straight back to normal that implies that it contains synthetic fibres and should also be avoided. A happy middle ground is the best fabric to choose. (We love a linen-cotton blend fabric for this reason).

The key to wearing linen pants with style is to ensure that they are properly cut: loose and slouchy pants are not a good look unless you’re a teenage boy with nothing to do.Tailored linens that show off your frame are the best choice: if you can’t find a pair that fits perfectly then have them tailored for the best effect.

Mirrored Sunglasses

Mirrored aviators are having something of a revival (think Tom Cruise in Top Gun and you won’t go wrong) but we think this is the perfect season to explore mirrored sunglasses in their many forms. Wraparound, circular frames, and classic rectangular shades are all available in a mirrored finish this season.

If you’re looking to add a twist to a classic then we love Ray Ban’s twist on their classic Wayfarers, which are available in black or brown with a blue mirrored lens. Why not use your shades as the pop of colour your outfit needs to really stand out?

Mirrored sunglasses are super-stylish and are ideal for wearing on the beach, or anywhere else where you’ll be surrounded by sand, water, or snow. They’re attention-grabbing, and a great way to ensure that all eyes are on you.

From a practical point of view, mirrored sunglasses (sometimes also called reflective sunglasses) are designed to reflect as much light away from your eyes as possible, making them ideal for protecting your eyes from the glare of the summer sun.

Mirrored sunglasses will also allow you to have brighter vision because they reflect light rather than absorb it. What’s more, mirrored sunglasses mean others can’t see your eyes: ideal for checking out passing girls over lunch or sleeping your way through that morning meeting!

A Vertical Striped Shirt

Finally, it wouldn’t be spring without a plethora of nautical stripes. Breton striped tees have long been a mainstay of spring/summer dressing for both men and women.Stripes in shades of black and white or navy blue and white are universally flattering and go with almost anything.

The problem is that so many people are wearing stripes now that they have become both generic and boring. The solution? Start wearing vertical stripes instead! Turning the angle of your stripes 90 degrees will leave you with one of this seasons hottest patterns for men!

The key to getting this look right is to choose the size of your stripes carefully. The goal is to replicate Armie Hammer’s effortless Call Me By Your Name wardrobe rather than look like a cartoon convict.

Straight narrow stripes punctuating bold but dark jackets, shirts and tees are the perfect directions to take. We love vertical stripes shirts worn open over plain white tees and paired with jeans for an effortless spring-like outfit.

If you’re looking for something brighter and more suited to wearing as resort wear then why not try wearing your shirt open at the neck and wearing with a pair of white chinos for a look that is fun, preppy, and perfect for a day by the coast.

Simply by switching the direction of your stripes, you will subvert a classic and timeless look and turn it into something that is exciting and innovative. Vertical stripes are the perfect way to update your wardrobe for Spring.
