Today I want to teach you all my fellow royal shopaholics ways to buy your favorite clothes, grooming products and even house stuff for less. We all want good things and also want to save our money. This is a pretty hard task but there are ways to spend less so you can save for other things.
Budgeting as a Way of Life
I often read that millennials are a generation who wants fashionable items for less and who don’t only care for big brand names and believe that the products’ features, innovation, quality and price is more relevant then let’s say buying some Gucci shoes just because it’s Gucci.
This is the reason for the success of brands like Zara, which brings all the runway trends to consumers at a much lower price.
Not sure that I entirely believe all the “millennial behavior” statements but there is a lot of truth in it.
As a millennial myself, born in 1988, I do shop around and wait for prices to drop but I also love and respect some of the big name brands like Tom Ford.
What it means for me is just that I am gonna try to get the Tom Ford shirt for less and if I really really want it, I will probably buy it despite of the price. But I am more likely to shop sales then anything else.
Also, as a millennial I use my clothes to make a statement and show my personality, which equals to investing a lot of time and money on it; so I have to be smart about my purchases.
Ways to Shop for Less
I want to share with you guys some of my tips that I use everyday to shop for less. You guys all know that I love me some luxury items, but you also know that I love a good sale and especially love when I can find my favorite items (luxury or not) at a discounted price; I swear endorphins rush through my body when that happens!
1- Shop Online to Have More Options
I can almost say that I never physically go to a store. Shopping online is much easier and smarter.
Online you can easily compare prices and order within minutes. If you feel like you have to try stuff on and that when you buy online you end up having to return it, don’t give up so fast! The same thing happened to me.
Getting good at shopping online is a process but once you do it enough times you know exactly what will fit and what won’t. Plus, if you need to return anything usually it’s pretty simple.
2- Best App for Shopaholics on a Budget
So I recently started using this App called Shoptagr that lets you save your desired items and then notifies you when the items in that list have gone on sale and finds the lowest prices for you.
I am glad that I found this App right before Black Friday and Christmas because you know some crazy sales are coming and this means I am gonna save a lot of money on my Christmas shopping this year. I’ll get go into more details below, take a look:
First Why I love this App
As I mentioned above, this is an App that notifies you of when items you want and maybe don’t have the money to buy at full retail price go on sale. It will find the lowest price for you.
Also another great feature is that Shoptagr notifies you when a Sold Out item comes back in stock. This is very handy so you don’t need to go back and fourth to check on the item’s availability.
I can save items from almost any store (they have over 700 stores on their App) in one single place. Many times I have one item from Gilt that I want, one from Nordstrom and another from Saks and the list goes one…. It’s annoying to have to make multiple purchases and keep track of it all.
The App will notify you of out of stock items that are now back in stock.
It’s very personal. What I mean is you narrow your search down to all your personal info such as size, color, etc.
I can share my wish list with others (dear family get ready LOL).
How to Shop From Your Computer
For example, you are on Mr. Porter’s site and you see a boot that you want, without opening a new tab or going to a different site, you will just click on the Shoptagr Button again, which will be located on your tool bar.
Make Sure to Create your List so you can share with others. Another option is to shop directly on the Shoptagr.com site.
How to Shop From Your Phone
2. Again login with Facebook or Email
3. When you find an item that you want to save, either on an App that you are in (like Nordstrom App) or from your browser, click share, then click on “more” and enable the Shoptagr App, this will take you to the Shoptagr App and will save the item to your list.
The next time you want to share an item from your phone, when you click share, the Shoptagr icon will already be there.
I personally prefer to shop from my computer. I like to see the pictures in a bigger screen but both ways are super easy.
3- Don’t be Afraid of Luxury Sites
Another thing I learned is to not be scared of luxury sites like Saks.com or NeimanMarcus.com. Back in the days I wouldn’t even dare to go to these websites because I thought it was way out of my league, but that’s not true.
Also, in general, I make it a habit to check the sales tab of my favorite brands and sites. I usually find something similar to what I am looking for at a better price.
4- Buy Outfits and not Individual Items
One of the best advises I can give you is this one: shop for entire looks. Before I learned this lesson I can’t even tell you how many items I had in my closet that I would never wear because I had nothing to wear it with.
This is what happens with a lot of us, you buy a piece because you think it’s cool and then you don’t have the pants or the shoes to go with it. I work hard to create outfits for you guys everyday because I think it is very valuable and can save you a lot of money.
Most people have their go to outfits and it’s usually a complete look. There is no problem in “copying” an outfit from someone who inspires you, in the contrary it’s super smart. It makes your life easier.
I follow a lot of guys on Instagram just so I can get inspiration for my outfits. So when shopping, make sure to think about what you have at home and can you create a complete look with the item you are buying; or again the best thing is to just buy complete looks.
5- Best Sites to Shop Sales
Some of my go to sites for sales include Rue La La, Gilt, Groupon, HauteLook, Asos and Amazon (even for clothes and accessories). Make sure to check out these sites. They have daily unique sales from very good brands.
Be smart about your shopping decisions. You can dress nicely on a budget! Use your clothes to say something about who you are and what you believe.
Technology is one of our best friends. Don’t be afraid to try new Apps especially if they are free like the one I shared today.
This will save you time and money. I hope you will take the time to try this out because like I said this is a really useful App and you will thank me later.
